Montana State University (MSU) Hockey had a tough test right off the bat in their 2019-2020 season opener, as their season openeed against the University of Mary (Mary) Marauders in Bismarck, North Dakota over the weekend.

The Marauders rode first-year success to a number one ranking most of the 2018-2019 season and were expected to be tough again this year.

Mary would beat MSU 5-0 on Saturday’s series opener. However, the Bobcats would rebound on Sunday, scoring three goals but ultimately falling in overtime. Jack Coon, Zach Lane, and Britt Cournyea would net the goals for MSU, and goalie Brock Vosburgh would stop 38 shots.

“I felt we got better as the game went on. We were playing an undefeated Marry group who is very good,” said Head Coach Dave Weaver. “To battle in the second game to OT was impressive.  We obviously did not get the final result that we wanted but we have many things to build on.”
