New Player FAQ
Where do the Bobcats play their home games/practices?
Haynes Pavilion at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.
When are tryouts?
End of September as soon as Haynes Pavilion is built for the fall.
How do I sign up for tryouts?
You will be able to sign up for tryouts at Catapalooza before school starts or online.
Will I be able to get ice time before tryouts?
Yes, there will be weekly practices on Sundays in Butte before tryouts as a training camp. These are not mandatory but are highly encouraged as you will meet the coaches and get a feel for the skill level.
Do I need a car?
No, carpooling is the most common form of transportation to practices and games. Veterans, who have cars, are encouraged and expected to give rides to players living on campus. We take a bus to away games.
Where do I keep my gear?
Veterans will keep your gear in their garages off campus and bring it to games/practices. Soon we will have our own locker room in the new Ressler Motors Rink.
How long is the season?
We start in October and go through mid March. To put this into perspective, we will be playing almost all of first semester with four week break for finals/winter break that starts around Thanksgiving. We play for a little less than half of Spring semester.
School comes first, will I have enough time for school and hockey?
We understand that school comes first and all players must maintain above a 2.0 GPA in order to play. College is tough and if players need to miss a game or practice to study or get homework done we completely understand.
What kind of time commitment can I expect?
We have three 1.5 hour practices per week; two night practices and one early morning practice. Expect to play games most weekends and travel during the first semester.
What is the best part of playing?
The feeling of stepping out on the ice in front of hundreds of screaming fans is one of the best parts of playing. Even better is the feeling of winning at home or silencing a rowdy crowd on the road.
