New Player FAQ
Where do the Bobcats play their home games/practices?
Haynes Pavilion at the Gallatin County Fairgrounds.
When are tryouts?
Tryouts are normally 3 ice sessions in late August or early September
How do I sign up for tryouts?
You will be able to sign up for tryouts at Catapalooza before school starts or online.
Will I be able to get ice time before tryouts?
Yes, there is normally at least 1 captains skate before tryouts begin that anyone registered to tryout is encouraged to attend.
Do I need a car?
No, carpooling is the most common form of transportation to practices and games. Veterans, who have cars, are encouraged and expected to give rides to players living on campus. We take a bus to away games.
Where do I keep my gear?
Veterans will keep your gear in their garages off campus and bring it to games/practices. Soon we will have our own locker room in the new Ressler Motors Rink.
How long is the season?
The season begins in September and runs until February or March, depending if the teams qualify for Nationals or not. There is a week long break for Thanksgiving and a few weeks break for Christmas.
School comes first, will I have enough time for school and hockey?
We understand that school comes first and all players must maintain above a 2.0 GPA in order to play. College is tough and if players need to miss a game or practice to study or get homework done we completely understand.
What kind of time commitment can I expect?
We have three 1.25 hour practices per week. Most weekends there are home or away games.
What is the best part of playing?
The feeling of stepping out on the ice in front of hundreds of screaming fans is one of the best parts of playing. Even better is the feeling of winning at home or silencing a rowdy crowd on the road.
