Coach Weaver has established himself as one of the premier coaches in ACHA hockey, earning major recognition for his leadership at Montana State. He was named ACHA Men’s Division 2 National Coach of the Year in both 2023 and 2024, becoming a back-to-back national honoree.
Weaver has also been selected as West Region Coach of the Year three times, including consecutive honors in 2023 and 2024. In 2024, he led the Bobcats to a 34-3-0 record, the No. 1 seed in the West Region, and an automatic bid to the National Championship for the second straight year where they finished second overall, losing to Lindenwood in the finals.
Under his guidance, Montana State became one of the most dominant teams in Division 2, and Weaver’s players earned multiple all-region and national honors along the way. His earlier coaching success also includes leading the Mid-State Mustangs 18U Tier II team to back-to-back USA Hockey National Championships in 2014 and 2015.
Additionally, Dave's son Sam Lafferty currently plays for the Chicago Blackhawks.
Pete Kamman brings more than two decades of coaching and leadership experience to Montana State hockey. As Associate Head Coach of the Bobcats, he has helped guide the program to sustained success, including multiple conference championships and national tournament appearances.
Kamman’s honors include ACHA National Coach of the Year staff recognition in 2023 and 2024, along with ACHA West Region Coach of the Year staff recognition in 2019, 2023, and 2024. He also earned the USA Hockey recognition as an up-and-coming leader for his work developing youth players and coaches in Montana.
A former ACHA national champion as a player at Miami University, Kamman has also served as Montana’s USA Hockey Coach-in-Chief and has coached at numerous player development camps at the state, district, regional, and national levels.
Andrew Waters serves as a coach with Montana State hockey, where he contributes to the program’s continued growth and development. He brings a strong commitment to player development, team culture, and supporting the Bobcats’ competitive success on and off the ice.
Martin Cerven brings a wealth of international playing experience and a deep commitment to player development to the Montana State hockey program. A native of Trenčín, Cerven represented Slovakia at both the U16 and U18 national team levels before being drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in 1995; launching a professional career that spanned junior, minor professional, and development leagues.
Off the ice, Cerven has established himself as a respected coach and mentor in the Bozeman hockey community. He currently serves as a Player Development Coach with the Bozeman Hockey Association, a Team Evaluator for the MT Wolves, and a Lead Coach for Elevated Hockey Camps. In addition to leading tournament teams and coaching within the Bozeman Hockey Association, he contributes as an assistant coach with Montana State’s men’s hockey team.
Chris Liberty brings decades of playing and coaching experience to the Montana State hockey program, with a specialized focus on goaltending development. Originally playing in Colorado and Wisconsin, Liberty has spent over 35 years in the crease and continues to stay actively involved in the position today.
As a coach, Liberty has dedicated more than 15 years to developing goaltenders of all ages, from 8U through the collegiate level. He currently serves as the goaltending coach for both the Montana State men’s and women’s hockey teams, providing technical instruction, game preparation, and position-specific development.
In addition to his role at MSU, Liberty is the USA Hockey Boys Goaltending Development Coordinator for Montana, where he helps guide statewide goalie development initiatives. He is also a goaltending development coach with the MT Wolves program and has spent the past eight years working with the Bozeman Amateur Hockey Association (BAHA), coaching goalies and youth teams at the 8U, 10U, and 12U levels.
Natalie has served as the team manager for the past 5 years, playing an essential role in the organization and daily operations of the program. Her leadership behind the scenes helps ensure everything runs smoothly, allowing players and coaches to focus on performance.
She is currently a student at Montana State University, pursuing a degree in Business Management and Marketing. Natalie brings strong organizational skills, communication, and a passion for team culture, making her a valuable part of the program both on and off the ice.
Morgan “Sensei” Hefty is theEquipment Manager for the Montana State University Bobcats. A Bozeman native, he brings over 15 years of experience from the family business, Top Shelf Hockey, a premier retail shop in Bozeman that draws players from across the country looking to elevate their game with top-tier gear and elite skate sharpening. After his own playing career was cut short due to injury, he turned his focus to helping others perform at their best, ensuring the Bobcats are always game ready and among the fastest teams on the ice. Nicknamed “Sensei” by the players for his precision and knowledge, he’s a key behind-the-scenes force for the team.

Bobcat Hockey shares the ice with the MSU Figure Skating team. They handle the intermissions, bring the energy, and help keep game day at Gallatin Ice running smoothly.
